The Georgia Department of Community Health’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (Georgia WIC) is currently the fifth largest program in the United States. Our district provides service to about seven percent of Georgia’s WIC programs through five clinics and three hospital sites. Our Marietta WIC Clinic is the third largest of all 265 clinics providing services in Georgia.
Georgia WIC sees pregnant women, breastfeeding women until their infants’ 1st birthday, postpartum women until their infants’ 6 month birthday, and infants and children up to 5 years of age.
Individuals must income qualify for our program; however the income levels are at 185 percent of the poverty line. Many moderate income families are surprised to find that they qualify. (Go to http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/howtoapply/incomeguidelines09-10.htm to see if you income qualify).
When individuals arrive at a CDPH WIC clinic they will be greeted and the process will begin. You will complete a questionnaire about what you and/or your children eat and turn in your income, residency and identification proofs. You will then be called back to have your height and weight checked. A lab tech may also check your iron status. Then a nutritionist will go over your questionnaire with you and answer any questions you may have. This nutritionist will also give you some great tips and information about how you and your family can be healthier. Together, you will create goals for you and your family. After your session with the nutritionist, you will wait for a short time while your vouchers are printed. Then you’ll schedule a time for your next appointment and you’re on your way!
Between your visits with the nutritionist, you will work on the goals you created for you and your family.
Client satisfaction and customer service are very important to us. We want to provide you with the best nutrition care possible. CDPH WIC believes in expressing respect for our participants. All of our treatments plans are developed with the client to best meet the family’s needs. Our participants are goal focused and willing to use our support to make changes in coordination with us because they feel cared for and respected by everyone in CDPH WIC.
The Cobb & Douglas WIC program is a regional provider—serving clients from not just Cobb and Douglas counties, but from DeKalb, Cherokee, Bartow, Paulding, and Fulton counties. Our non-district clients tell us they travel farther to see us because we’re “friendly and offer more time for the client.” We do use an appointment based system; however, we make every effort to take in walk-in clients when possible.
Cobb & Douglas Public Health WIC clinics and their hours of operation follow:
Average service times are calculated from the time a client signs in to WIC to the time they are leaving after receiving their service and vouchers. Actual service times vary for the different services we provide in our clinic. Please commit approximately 2 hours for assessment visits.
All of our WellStar Hospitals (Kennestone, Cobb and Douglasville) have a Certification Center for Newborn Babies and their Moms to be certified prior to discharge. Please contact your nurse in your hospital of delivery for the contact information. Please keep in mind that our hospital certifications are not guaranteed. If you are not able to be certified while in the hospital, please contact one of our primary sites. We have appointment dates available within ten days in all of our clinics; most of the time we have appointments in a couple of days of your call.
