Healthy Families

As one of several family support programs operated by Douglas Public Health, Healthy Families Douglas seeks to empower new parents to overcome life challenges and become self sufficient. The Family Support Department strives to teach parents to be responsible and committed to their families’ physical, emotional and developmental well-being by working with Douglas County families to provide healthy, nurturing and safe environments that will allow their children to maximize their fullest potential.

The Healthy Families Douglas Program provides family support services to first-time Douglas County parents, free of charge, through a voluntary home visitation program from the prenatal period to age four. It is one of 20 sites statewide, all of which are an initiative of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia. In an effort to prevent child abuse and neglect and to help first-time parents be the best parents they can be, paraprofessional support workers provide in-home training, support and information in the areas of infant and child health and development, positive parenting and parent-child interaction. Services include: one on one parenting education, home visits, referrals to community resources, developmental testing of infants and toddlers, quarterly family parties/events, trips to ball games, the zoo and many more!

Healthy Families is funded by the Georgia Children’s Trust Fund Commission and from local grants and donations. If you or your organization would like to sponsor this program please call (770) 739-3211.

Enrollment in Healthy Families occurs on a first come first served basis and must begin in the prenatal period or before the first child turns 3 months of age.
