Screening Guidelines for Testing

Current CDC recommendations state that clinicians should consider the possibility of swine influenza virus infections in patients who present with febrile respiratory illness and fit one of the following:

  • Live in an area** where human cases of swine influenza (H1N1) have been identified
  • Have traveled to an area** where human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) have been identified
  • Have been in contact with ill persons from these areas** in the 7 days prior to their illness onset.
