Cobb County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition

The Cobb County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition is working to increase awareness of the health effects of tobacco use, environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), and to prevent the next generation from becoming addicted to tobacco. We are a new coalition of community members, medical professionals, business people, students, school personnel, and staff from agencies in the county.

Many of us decided to become involved because we don’t want our children and grandchildren to suffer the same fate as the current generations have with addiction and death from tobacco.

We are made up of every day people like you. But we have chosen to take a stand against the most addictive substance know to man, a substance that brings pleasure to the user at the outset and later causes disease and suffering in the end.

Vision

Cobb County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition is committed to a world where children and adults are not exposed to tobacco media or second-hand smoke, and are supported in their decision not to use tobacco products.

Mission

The purpose of the Cobb County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition is to protect and improve the health of the Cobb Community by providing a forum where strategies can be developed, coordinated and implemented to prevent and reduce tobacco use and to support clean indoor air.

Goals

• Prevent youth from becoming users of tobacco products
• Promote tobacco cessation among youth and adults
• Help those who want to quit find the resources they need
• Promote educational programs which have a main focus on Tobacco Use Prevention within our community
• Promote the enforcement of laws which restrict the purchase of tobacco products by youth
• Work with restaurants on the implementation of smoke-free policies and a clean air environment
• Protect people from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke
• Identify and eliminate the disparities related to tobacco use and its effects among different population groups
