General Information
All services are provided to Cobb and Douglas county residents
without regard to age, color, creed, national origin, physical
or mental disability, political affiliation, race, religion
or sexual orientation. Fees are income based. We accept Medicaid,
Medicare and most private insurance for services.
Services
The Cobb & Douglas Public Health
Centers provide personal health services for children, adolescents,
and adults. To make an appointment or for more information
about our services, call the Public Health Center nearest
you.
Health Services
- Child Health—physical check-ups, hearing and vision screening, school health certificates and referral services for
children with developmental delays.
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases—screening, diagnosis and treatment.
- HIV/AIDS—anonymous testing, counseling, ongoing care for people with
HIV.
- Women’s Health—screening for breast and cervical cancer, high blood
pressure and diabetes.
- Maternal Health—pregnancy testing and referral service for prenatal
care.
- Family Planning—birth control methods and pregnancy testing.
- Refugee Services—screening for contagious and communicable diseases,
immunizations, referrals.
- Tuberculosis (TB) Services—screening, diagnosis, treatment and case
management.
- Dental Services—exams, cleaning, fillings, x-rays, and sealants for
children up to 18 years of age.
- Laboratory—premarital blood tests (for marriage in Georgia), metabolic
(PKU) screenings and other physician-ordered laboratory
services .
- Primary Care—treatment of some acute and chronic illnesses (by physicians
and nurse practitioners).
Pharmacy
Cobb County
Pharmacy services are available to patients who visit our centers. Counseling is offered concerning medication usage, side
effects, drug interactions, and drug abuse. The charges for these medications vary with each program. The Pharmacy also
serves as the information source for the community at large and other health providers for Rabies Post-Exposure Treatment.
Douglas County
Pharmacy services are available for Tuberculosis control,
Family Planning, Stroke and Heart Attack program, and some
Child Health programs. The charges for medications dispensed
vary with each program. Also, the pharmacy also serves as
the information source for the community at large and other
health care providers for rabies post-exposure treatment.
Prevention/Health Promotion
- Family Support Services—support, health and parenting education and
service referrals for families with young children (prenatal
to age 4 years).
- Early Intervention/Children’s Medical Services—ensures children with
special needs, medical or developmental, to obtain comprehensive
care to enable them to reach their full potential.
- Youth Development—activities to help young people (ages 10-19) set
and reach health, social and career goals. Includes after-school
programs, summer camps, and WiseGuys (male self-responsibility
program).
- WIC Nutrition Program—nutrition education and supplemental food for
women, infants and children with nutritional needs.
- Immunization Services—child and adult vaccine-preventable diseases,
such as measles and mumps and issuance of nursery and school
certificates.
- SAFE KIDS—education and safety equipment (such as bike helmets
and car seats) to reduce childhood injuries.
- Community Health Education—education, support, and referrals to services to prevent
onset or complications from chronic diseases (diabetes,
hypertension, etc.).
- International Travel Health—We offer individualized professional counseling on how to avoid health risks encountered during international travel as well as immunizing against vaccine preventable diseases.
Health Assessment
- Protects the health of Cobb and Douglas residents by tracking
infectious diseases and providing preventive medications
if needed.
- Analyzes data and surveys residents to define trends in
community health.
- Provides education to residents through presentations
and publications about their health and ways to improve
it.
- Maintains and issues Cobb county residents birth and death
records(Cobb County Only).
Environmental Health
The Office of Environmental Health provides services to promote a healthy and safe environment and protect community health.
- Restaurants—review and approve plans, issue permits and conduct ongoing
inspections.
- Epidemiologic Investigations—investigates food borne and water borne
illness complaints.
- Temporary Events Permits—evaluate and permit food service for festivals,
carnivals, fairs and other temporary events.
- Swimming Pools—permit public pools and evaluate water chemistry and
pool safety.
- Well Water—test for bacteriological quality and evaluate sanitary
protection of the well.
- Lead Poisoning—conduct in-home evaluations when high blood lead levels
are identified.
- Radon Testing—test homes and provide public education
program(Cobb County Only).
- Sewage Management—review plans, conduct site visits, and provide permits
for individual homes, sub-divisions, and businesses.
- Nuisance Complaints—investigations concerning sewage,
garbage, insects, rodents and other environmental health
issues.
